Intake Care Coordination Team 24/7, 365 arranges ship to shore treatment for injured or ill mariners, with medically trained staff who respond quickly to the needs of the vessel, with our network of providers in nearby ports, educated in Jones’ Act injury or illness cases. MSS Intake Care Coordinators team or ICC is also well versed in handling international concerns, working in conjunction with vessel officers and port Captains to facilitate and expedite evaluations that quickly return the Crewmember to work whenever possible. This department includes Telehealth/Physician Advisory when needed, to ensure best decisions (revert vessel, treat onboard). We became a chameleon so to speak, when the virus hit, off-boarding, setting up isolation/quarantine, attaining release to RTW and even facilitation of disinfecting when needed. Our industry partner, OffShore Medical Logistics, headed by Dr. Brian Bourgois, MD out of Louisiana, has been in the offshore and blue/brown water environment for many years, and has several clinic locations in the Gulf Coast as well as Alaska. Dr. Bourgeois, MD is the longest standing USCG physician advisory board member, and we are so proud to work together.
Medical Case Management Team Our nurses are distributed throughout the US, with various backgrounds and specialties, who assume the case once Crewmember has been deemed unfit for duty or is in an inpatient setting. Their focus is to ensure that treatment related to the claim is expedited and moves in the direction of return to full duty and Maximum Medical Improvement. The goal is to ensure the Crewmember is well taken care of, acting as an advocate, on behalf of the vessel owner/manager, toward avoiding any legal involvement. All medical records/reports are reviewed in detail, with assessment of pre-existing conditions with noted barriers to rehabilitation. That said, when litigation does arrive, many of our nurses have extensive experience in assisting with depositions, mediations and even trials, working closely with the defense teams across the US.
Audit Team When self-insured, co-payments or deductibles come into play, MSS has the ability to negotiate and effect significant cost savings for claims, both before, during and after the services occur. Upon receipt of the case, MSS notifies the providers of our involvement and works together with our Clients, especially the P&I Clubs who share those high-profile complex cases, toward best pricing, with use of our skilled negotiation specialist and the MSS proprietary software platform. Our reports have been used to reduce huge amounts with great savings to the vessel/Client.
